Like most people, when Ed O'Reilly's children were growing up, he was constantly trying to protect them from injury. The fireplace hearth was a continuous hazard. Pillows and blankets lined the brick hearth. He and his wife were often heard saying to the kids, "Stay away from the hearth..."
When O'Reilly became a grandfather, the hearth fireplace challenge continued. O'Reilly knew he needed a permanent, aesthetically pleasing, solution. The Jack-Mat™ was created. Named after two of O'Reilly's grandchildren - Jack and Matison, each Jack-Mat is custom made.
"Fireplaces are like snowflakes. They are all unique," O'Reilly said. "That is why each Jack-Mat is measured and made specifically for a particular fireplace. This is actually a piece of furniture. It adds a row of seats without taking up floor space. It is one product serving at least two purposes." O'Reilly added that customers are extremely happy because the Jack-Mat adds warmth to a room. "How often do you have people over and someone ends up sitting on the hearth? Now they can do so in comfort!" O'Reilly noted.
